Carbon fiber can be added to fluoropolymers to provide stiffness and abrasion resistance without adding additional weight.  The shear energy of the compounding process can be minimized to allow the long carbon fibers to dominate, making a more flexible jacket.  The shear energy can also be increased to break down the long fibers, providing a uniform carbon matrix of variable lengths for maximum stiffness and abrasion resistance.
